MARKET STEER SHOW GUIDELINES

 

 1.        ENTRY DEADLINE for checking Market Steers into the fair will be

10:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15.  NO ENTRY FEE.

 2.        The Market Steer Show will be held on Thursday, July 19, beginning

immediately after the Beef Females Show.

3.        The exhibitor is expected to keep his/her animal in good presentable condition during the entire week of fair activities.

 4.        One Market Steer may be shown per exhibitor. 

 5.        Steers will be weighed on Sunday, July 15, between 5 pm and 10pm and classes made up by show chairmen.

 6.        Steers must weigh a minimum of 950 pounds and a maximum of 1475

            pounds to be eligible to show.  All steers that meet the weight  

            requirements

            are eligible to show in showmanship.

7.         Steers must be tied in the location designated by the Show Chairmen.

8.         Market Steers must be in member’s possession and on feed by

            January 1.  These animals are to be kept at the residence of the exhibitor,

            is/her parents or legal guardian.  Any housing arrangements other than this

            need prior approval by the committee.  They are to be available for

            inspection

            by extension agents, advisors, committee members, or designated

            leaders.

 9.        Any product administered internally or used externally to alter the

            conformation of an animal for exhibition is prohibited.  This includes use of

            raphite, powders, hemp, carbonated beverages, foam, and any other such

            substances.

10.       The exhibitor is responsible for verifying with Show Chairmen any drugs,

             growth stimulants and any other treatments administered to the animal

            including those by a veterinarian.  (This procedure is to ensure that all

            animals are free of any residues left by said medication that would          

            necessitate longer waiting periods for slaughter.)

11.       Feeding, caring for, and grooming of the animals must be done by the

            exhibitors.  There is to be no professionals involved with the preparation

            or the exhibition of animals at the fair.

12.       All Jr. Exhibitors must have had their animal’s identification done at the

            designated time given by the Show Chairmen.

13.       Required Health Papers must be presented upon arrival at the fairgrounds

  before unloading livestock.

14.       Animal Health Verification Form must be presented upon arrival at the

  fairgrounds.  Any medications given at the fair must be recorded on this 

  form. 

15.       Grooming is to be done by the exhibitor.  First year exhibitors are to be

            assisted in moving animals to and from the wash rack and show ring.  First

            year exhibitors in age group, 8 to 13 years old, may be assisted by 

            parents or guardian in the grooming and fitting of their animal.  Older age

            exhibitors may receive assistance only in the grooming and fitting of their

            animal; if it is their first year in the project.

16.       All beef animals to be shown on Thursday in Jr. classes must be washed

            on this day.

17.       Grooming and fitting must be done in the barn in which the animal is

            housed or immediate area adjacent to it.  Guidelines for grooming are

            established by advisory committee.  Show chairmen will have this

            information.

18.             Hooves must be shown in their natural form.

19.       All exhibitors are to keep their stalls or pens cleaned, feed to their

            animals and water provided on a regular basis.

20.       Any market livestock animal that is not found in compliance with any of

            the above rules will be expelled from the show.

21.       All exhibitors must turn in a completed project book and record guides, animal health form to participate in all show classes, send a Thank-you to award sponsors and showmanship classes to receive premium money.

22.       Exhibitor must have been 12 years old on October 1, 2011 in order to be eligible to take Market Steer as a project for 2012; 9-11 year olds can take this project if they have shown a feeder calf for one year as a project and completed it.

23.      Any 4-H or FFA member not adhering to the individual project guidelines will

           be excluded from the sale.

24.      All exhibitors must be in proper show attire when showing in any class as

           well as for the sale. Proper attire is defined as for 4-H a 4-H show shirt,

           jeans and boots and for FFA the proper attire approved by FFA.

                                                                        

 CLASSES MARKET STEERS

(Will show following Commercial Females)

 

CLASS    1.  Market Steers (classes divided by weight) 950 pounds minimum to

                   1475 pounds maximum.

CLASS    2.  Grand Champion and Reserve Champion - must weigh between

                    950 pounds and 1475 pounds.

 

 SECTION IV - SHOWMANSHIP GUIDELINES

Thursday, July 19

 

1.       Showmanship classes are MANDATORY to Wood County 4-H and FFA

exhibitors in all Beef projects who are exhibiting at the fair.

2.         Age on day of show will determine the class that each exhibitor will show in.

3.       The Fair Association will pay no prize money for Showmanship classes.

4.       The grooming guidelines listed in Section III will apply to showmanship.

5.       Judge will please explain his reasons for his placing and constructive

criticism is appreciated.

6.         Judging will be on:

A)   Contestant’s ability to properly show his/her animal to the Judge.

B) Appearance of the animal and exhibitor.

C) Appearance of contestants; such as proper dress, neatness, clean

    clothing and shoes, grooming, and sportsmanship.

D) Knowledge of animal project, marketing, and livestock industry.

7.           Showmanship participants must show their own animal in showmanship.

8.           All exhibitors must be in proper show attire when showing in any class as well as for the sale. Proper attire is defined as for 4-H a 4-H show shirt, jeans and boots and for FFA the proper attire approved by FFA.

 

 

 

SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES

(Will be first in beef show)

 

CLASS    1.  Showmanship - 10 years of age and under.

CLASS    2.  Showmanship - 11, 12, 13 years of age.

CLASS    3.  Showmanship - 14, 15, 16 years of age.

CLASS    4.  Showmanship - 17 years of age or older.
