                                                         GENERAL GUIDELINES

 1.        NO ENTRY FEE.  Participants in the Junior Swine Show must be a member

in good standing of Wood County 4-H or FFA programs.

 2.        All animals MUST HAVE HEALTH PAPERS , pass a health inspection, and be checked by Show Chairmen before unloading the animal.  ( foot rot, sore mouth, ringworm, etc.)

 3.        Animals entered in breeding classes cannot be entered in Market Hog

            classes or vice versa.

 4.        No distinction will be made between grade and registered swine.

 5.        All animals must comply with the WV Department of Agriculture Health

Regulations.  See section in fair catalog on Health Requirements and

            General Rules.

 6.        Agents, instructors or designated leaders must verify the existence of project

animals.  Unscheduled farm visits may be anytime during project year.

 7.        All swine animals will be stabled in the spaces assigned to them by the Show

Chairmen.

 8.        ANIMAL HEALTH VERIFICATION FORM must be presented upon arrival

at the fairgrounds.  Any medications given at the fair must be recorded on this

form.  The exhibitor is responsible for verifying with the Show Chairmen any

drugs, growth stimulants or any other treatments administered to the animal,

including those by a veterinarian.  This procedure is to ensure that all animals

are free of any residues left by said medication that would necessitate longer             waiting periods for slaughter.

 9.        All Jr. exhibitors must have had their animal’s identification done at the

designated time given by the Show Chairmen.

10.       Feeding, caring for and grooming of the animals must be done by the

exhibitor.  There is to be no professionals involved with the preparation or

the exhibition of animals at the fair.  All animals must be washed and clean for

the show.  No oils, powders, lotions, or polishes can be used on the animal or

the animal will be disqualified.  Animal must be shown in its natural hair state.

11.       All exhibitors must turn in a completed project book and record guides, animal health form to participate in all show classes, send a Thank-you to award sponsors and showmanship classes to receive premium money.

12.      The Show Chairmen reserve the right to interpret rules governing the Swine Show.

13.      Entry deadline for checking Market and Purebred Swine Projects into the fair will be 10:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15.

14.      These animals are to be kept at the residence of the exhibitor, his/her

parents, or legal guardian.  Any housing arrangement other than this needs

prior approval by the committee.  They are to be available for inspection by

extension agents, advisors, committee members, or designated leaders.

15.       If a Junior Swine Exhibitor has a valid reason and is unable to show his/her

animal in a class, the substitute showman must be a member of 4-H or FFA

programs in Wood County and be in the same or lower age group.  An

excusable valid reason would be an illness documented by a physician, death

in immediate family, or extenuating circumstances decided by the committee.

16.       All project animals must be registered with Extension Agent or Vo-Ag Instructor by May 1 and tagged on the designated tagging day.

17.       All exhibitors must conform to the general rules of the WV Interstate Fair &

Exposition, Inc. and the Jr. Livestock Committee Chairs.

18.       Any 4-H or FFA member not adhering to the individual project guidelines will be excluded from the sale.

19.       The exhibitor will feed and water their animal until it is picked-up by the buyer or packing house.  If the animal is sold on Thursday, but still there until Sunday, it is the exhibitor’s responsibility to take care of it until it is picked-up.

20.       No straw or hay is allowed in the hog barn since it promotes moisture retention, flies, and an odor.  Sawdust is the only thing authorized for bedding inside the hog barn.

21.       Animals will be fed in the feed pans (bowls), which will be provided by the exhibitor.  Feeding is to be done twice daily.  Feed in the morning before the public comes through the barn with the feed pans removed once feeding is complete.  Evening feeding will be done in the later part of the day using the same process as for the morning feeding.

22.            Each exhibitor will be responsible for keeping their pen(s) clean (this is barn duty).  If any mess is in the aisles of the hog barn, it is every exhibitor’s duty to clean it whether the mess is in front of your area or not.  Public walkways are to be kept free of debris so as to facilitate good flow of traffic.

23.       All Grand and Reserve Champion animals must be sold.

24.       WV Interstate Fair Board, Wood County 4-H Leaders Association, and Blennerhassett FFA will not be responsible in case of fire, theft, or accident to any stock, also will not be responsible for any accident on the fairgrounds.  Precautions will be taken to protect animals.

25.       Any exhibitor not participating in the sale and leaves early must clean their stall area.  The cleaned stall area must be approved by a livestock chair before leaving.

26.       Any project animals that do not meet the weight guidelines will be

permitted to exhibit in showmanship only, and then be removed from

the fairgrounds immediately after checking out with your livestock

            chair.

27.       All exhibitors must be in proper show attire when showing in any class as wel
