GENERAL GUIDELINES

 

1.         NO ENTRY FEE.  Participants in the Junior Goat Show must be a member in good standing of Wood County 4-H or FFA programs.

2.         All animals MUST HAVE HEALTH PAPERS , pass a health inspection, and be checked by Show Chairmen before unloading the animal.  (foot rot, sore mouth, ringworm, etc.)

2.           Animals entered in breeding classes cannot be entered in market classes  

or vice versa.  Market goats must be born between January 1 and

April 30 of the current year.

4.          No distinction will be made between grade and registered goats.

5.          All animals must comply with the WV Department of Agriculture Health

             Regulations.

6.         Agents, instructors or designated leaders must verify the existence of project animals. Unscheduled farm visits may be anytime during project year.

7.         All goat animals will be stabled in the spaces assigned to them by the Show Chairmen.

8.         ANIMAL HEALTH VERIFICATION FORM must be presented upon arrival at the fairgrounds.  Any medications given at the fair must be recorded on this form.  The exhibitor is responsible for verifying with the Show Chairmen any drugs, growth stimulants or any other treatments administered to the animal, including those by a veterinarian.  This procedure is to ensure that all animals are free of any residues left by said medication that would necessitate longer waiting periods for slaughter.   

9.         All Jr. exhibitors must have had their animal’s identification done (meat goat) at the designated time given by the show chairmen.

10.       Feeding, caring for and grooming of the animals must be done by the exhibitor. There are to be no professionals involved with the preparation or the exhibition of animals at the fair.

11.      All exhibitors must turn in a completed project book and record guides, animal health form to participate in all show classes, send a Thank-you to award sponsors and showmanship classes to receive premium money.

12.       The show chairmen reserve the right to interpret rules governing the Goat

            Show.

 13.      Entry deadline for checking goat projects into the fair will be 10:00

            p.m., Sunday, July 15.  Market Goats will be weighed on Sunday,     

            July 17, between 5pm and 10pm and classes will be made by Show

            Chairmen.  Any project animals that do not meet the weight 

            guidelines will be permitted to exhibit in showmanship only, and then

            be removed from the fairgrounds immediately after checking out with

            your livestock chair.

14.       All project animals must be registered with Extension Agent or Vo-Ag Instructor by May 1.

15.       If a Junior Dairy Exhibitor has a valid reason and is unable to show his/her

animal in a class, the substitute showman must be a member of 4-H or FFA programs in Wood County and be in the same or lower age group.  An excusable valid reason would be an illness documented by a physician, death in immediate family, or extenuating circumstances decided by the committee.

16.       These animals are to be kept at the residence of the exhibitor, his/her parents, or legal guardian.  Any housing arrangement other than this needs prior approval by the committee.  They are to be available for inspection by extension agents, advisors, committee members, or designated leaders.

17.       All Grand and Reserve Champion (market goat) animals must be sold. 

18.       WV Interstate Fair Board, Wood County 4-H Leaders Association, and   Blennerhassett FFA will not be responsible in case of fire, theft, or accident to any stock, also will not be responsible for any accident on the fairgrounds. Precautions will be taken to protect animals.

19.       Any 4-H or FFA member not adhering to the individual project guidelines will be excluded from the sale.

20.       All goats must have horns tipped.  No sharp points allowed. 

21.       Any project animals that do not meet the weight guidelines, will be permitted to exhibit in showmanship only, and then be removed from the fairgrounds immediately after checking out with your livestock chair.

22.       Any exhibitor not participating in the sale and leaves early must clean their stall area.  The cleaned stall area must be approved by a livestock chair before leaving. 

23        All exhibitors must be in proper show attire when showing in any class as well as for the sale. Proper attire is defined as for 4-H a 4-H show shirt, jeans and boots and for FFA the proper attire approved by FFA.

                                                                   

 

SECTION I - DAIRY GOAT PROJECTS (Breeding Classes)

(All breeds, grade or registered show together)

 

CLASS 1.    Doe Kid under one year of age

CLASS 2.    Yearling Doe over one year old never fresh

CLASS 3.    Jr. Grand Champion

CLASS 4.    Reserve Jr. Grand Champion

CLASS 5.    Milers First Lactation 1 or 2 years old

CLASS 6.    Milers under 3 years old

CLASS 7.    Milers over 3 years old

CLASS 8.    Dry Goat—Must have freshened at least once    

CLASS 9.    Sr. Grand Champion

CLASS 10.  Reserve Sr. Grand Champion

 

SECTION II –MARKET GOAT PROJECTS

 

CLASS 11.    Market Goat (Chevron) – weighing minimum of 55 pounds to a  

            maximum of 100 pounds to be eligible for the champion classes. Any project animals that do not meet the weight guidelines will be permitted to exhibit in showmanship only, and then be removed from the fairgrounds immediately after checking out with your livestock chair.

 

CLASS 12.    Jr. Grand Champion

SECTION III - GOAT SHOWMANSHIP

CLASS 14.  Showmanship - 10 years of age and under

CLASS 15.  Showmanship - 11,12,13, years of age

CLASS 16.  Showmanship - 14,15,16, years of age

CLASS 17.  Showmanship - 17 years of age or older
