CLASS 1    Jr. Heifer Calf, born on or after March 1, 2012

CLASS 2    Intermediate Heifer Calf, born Dec. 1, 2011 thru Feb. 29, 2012

CLASS 3    Sr. Heifer Calf, born Sept. 1, 2011 thru Nov 30, 2011

CLASS 4    Jr. Yearling Heifer, born March 1, 2011 thru Aug. 31, 2011

CLASS 5    Sr. Yearling Heifer, born Sept. 1, 2010 thru Feb. 29, 2010

CLASS 6    Jr. Two-Year-Old Cow, born March 1, 2009 thru Aug. 31, 2009

CLASS 7    Sr. Two-Year-Old Cow, born Sept. 1,2009 thru Feb. 29, 2009

CLASS 8    Three-Year Old Cow, born Sept. 1, 2008 thru Aug. 31, 2009

CLASS 9    Four-Year Old Cow, born Sept. 1, 2007 thru Aug. 31, 2008

CLASS 10  Aged Cow, Five Years Old and Over, born before Sept. 1, 2007

CLASS 11  Dry Cow

CLASS 12  Grand Champion Female

CLASS 13  Reserve Grand Champion Female

CLASS 14  Dam and Daughter

CLASS 15  Junior Best Three Females—This group to consist of three (3) females

                     from heifer classes, none of which have freshened, all bred by and at

                     least one owned by exhibitor.    

CLASS 16  Breeder’s Herd—Group to consist of five females (2cows, 2

                     unfreshened heifers or calves, and one any age) all bred by exhibitor.

                     One entry per Exhibitor.

  

GENERAL GUIDELINES

 

1.         Participants in the Junior Dairy Show must be a member in good standing of Wood County 4-H or FFA programs.  NO ENTRY FEE.

2.         All animals MUST HAVE HEALTH PAPERS , pass a health inspection, and be checked by Show Chairman before unloading.  (foot rot, sore mouth, ringworm, etc.)  ANIMAL HEALTH VERIFICATION FORM must be turned into Show Chairman.

3.         Agents, instructors, or designated leaders must verify the existence of project animals.  Unscheduled farm visits may be anytime during the project year.

4.         Registration papers for each animal must be verified by the show chairmen.

5.         Entry deadline for NON-LACTATING cattle to be checked into the fair will be

10:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15 and will be released after 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

6.         Entry deadline for LACTATING cattle to be checked into the fair will be

10:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15, and will be released after 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

7.         All animals must comply with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Health Regulations.

8.         The show chairmen reserve the right to interpret rules governing the Dairy Show.

9.         All dairy animals will be stabled in the spaces assigned to them by show chairmen.

10.       Feed, caring for and grooming of the animals must be done by the exhibitor.

There are to be no professionals involved with the preparation or the exhibition of animals at the fair.

11.       All exhibitors must turn in a completed project book and record guides, animal health form to participate in all show classes, send a Thank-you to award sponsors and showmanship classes to receive premium money.

12.       All project animals must be registered with Extension Agent or Vo-Ag Instructor by May 1.

13.       If a Junior Dairy Exhibitor has a valid reason and is unable to show his/her animal in a class, the substitute showman must be a member of 4-H or FFA programs in Wood County and be in the same or lower age group.  An excusable valid reason would be an illness documented by a physician, or death in immediate family, or extenuating circumstances decided by the committee.

14.       These animals are to be kept at the residence of the exhibitor, his/her parents, or legal guardian.  Any housing arrangement other than Wood County needs prior approval by the committee.  They are to be available for inspection by the Extension Agents, advisors, committee members or designated leaders.

15.       WV Interstate Fair Board, Wood County 4-H Leaders Association, and Blennerhassett FFA will not be responsible in case of fire, theft, or accident to any stock, also will not be responsible for any accident on the fairgrounds.  Precaution will be taken to protect the animals.

16.       Any exhibitor not participating in the sale and leaves early must clean their stall area.  The cleaned stall area must be approved by a livestock chair before leaving. 

17.       All exhibitors must be in proper show attire when showing in any class as wel

            as for the sale. Proper attire is defined as for 4-H a 4-H show shirt, jeans and

            boots and for FFA the proper attire approved by FFA.

 

 

                                            SECTION II—SHOWMANSHIP CLASS

 

CLASS   17.  Showmanship - 10 years of age and under.

CLASS   18.  Showmanship - 11, 12, 13 years of age.

CLASS   19.  Showmanship - 14, 15, 16 years of age.

CLASS   20.  Showmanship - 17 years of age or older.
